Free DIY Wind Generator Plans for Homes

Here are some great free wind generator plans

Sometimes it doesn’t make sense to run grid energy to a remote location. Especially when you could have an entire stand alone system for less, and you won’t have to pay utilities.

This PMG will cost about $250 to make. That’s just for the generator. Added expenses like towers and batteries aren’t included. If you can do the welding yourself, or have a friend who can, you can save $40-$60. Use the furling design, it will save you in the long run.

There are some really important details to pay attention to, and DON’T skimp on materials. If you’re looking for something simpler and costs less, than check out the plans reviewed link below. You can build an entire system, and hook it up to your house for $150. Wind generator plans reviewed

Choosing The Right Materials to Build a Wind Generator

Since your electrical output is determined by the coils and the magnets, it’s really important to use both magnet wire and rare earth magnets. Copper wire for your coils and ferrite magnets won’t produce enough electricity. Use neodymium (rare earth) magnets. The switching poles of the magnetic field is what produces the electricity. You want a strong magnetic field.

The distance that the coils and the magnets are apart also determines output. At just one inch apart you can loose up to 90% of electrical output. So if your going to concentrate your efforts, make sure to pay close attention to how strong your hub is. You don’t want any give or play in your hub. You want your coils and magnets close to one another, but you don’t want sheer wind force to let them rub.

The AWG and the windings of the coils are discussed in the diagrams.
There are pros and cons to using thicker gauge wire. If you have ample wind speeds, you can use a thicker guage. A lot is determined by your available wind speeds.
One of the hardest parts about building a homemade wind generator is the electrical tie in. Although these plans don’t explain electrical connections, they do show how to make a permanent magnet generator.
